These muscadine vines are in their second year. They are spaced out from the edge of the roof to allow for a future construction of a passive solar “mini-greenhouse”.  The vines will be pruned back in the winter to allow sunshine to heat the “greenhouse”. Windows can be opened between the house and the greenhouse to allow excess heat to warm the house.

In the summer the poly plastic cover will be rolled up and with the vines all leafed out, the greenhouse will become a shady, screened in, outdoor living area. This roof gets about five hours of direct sun in June.
